eBook Technologies acquired by Google

eBook Technologies Inc. (ETI) and its team virtually founded the eBook market and amassed what is likely the richest portfolio of advanced EPUB-compliant software for eReading systems. While others were building the basics, ETI was addressing next generation features. ETI’s team occupied prominent key positions in the IDPF, the standards body behind EPUB, with Garth Conboy, ETI’s President, as Chairman of the IDPF.

Building on its Android platform, Google has a critical stake in leading eReading software and in providing systems to both consumers and industry partners. With ETI, Google gains significant benefits from both ETI’s technology as well as from gaining access to ETI’s notable talent.

Stratagem served as ETI’s exclusive financial advisor and playing an integral role in bringing these companies together in an industry-shaping transaction. Likewise we helped the ETI team realize the value of several years of arduous work and enable the ETI team to participate in having its technology occupy a top-tier position in the worldwide market. ETI’s key founders remain in key management roles within Google’s eReading efforts.

“Google was our first choice as an acquirer and Brian helped make that happen.  He successfully drove the M&A process, and my team and I are very happy with the outcome.”
