Brian Mutert

Founder and CEO

Specializing in software investment banking and M&A, I have 30+ years of experience spanning more than 100 transactions. I immerse myself in understanding your business so that I can evangelize your business, often discovering insight into your business value that you may not have know was there.

On sell side engagements, I bring high value buyers your business.  Using my extensive contacts and strategically targeted marketing approach, I have completed deals with industry leaders including Google, EMC, IBM, Adobe, HP, OpenText and CA and handled global transactions with firms in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, and Singapore.

On the buy side, I help develop acquisition strategies, identify prospective candidates, and manage internal consensus building and justification to close deals.

On the fundraising side, my long history of trusted relationships with top tier VCs and corporate venture sources helps raise capital from both financial and strategic sources. Strategic capital often provides additional business leverage and credibility and can lead to larger subsequent deals.

My constant industry research, technology market expertise, and knowledge of competitive dynamics drive client engagements to identify unique value propositions and synergies with key partners.

Prior to founding Stratagem, I was the lead software analyst at Robertson Stephens & Co., one of the nation’s leading high tech investment banks.

I graduated with a First from the University of Exeter, England with a M.A. in the Economics of Finance and Investment, a specialized masters program in securities analysis and portfolio management and an equivalent to an MBA. I also have B.A., with a double major in Economics and Accounting.

I completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program, passing the 3 exams in the minimum 3 years.
